Philips Avent expands its digital parenting platform uGrow with new connected products and improved functionality to better understand baby’s development and set the stage for healthier futures
Berlin, Germany – At this year’s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin, Germany, Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) today announced a range of new products that empower consumers to stay healthy, live well and enjoy life.
Its world-leading childcare brand, Philips Avent continues to build its medical grade parenting platform uGrow with the introduction of two new connected products Philips Hue white ambiance and Philips Air Purifier 1000i Series and added enhanced functionality for the mobile application at its heart. With over 350,000 babies born around the world every day, uGrow enables parents to celebrate pregnancy, birth and their child’s development. At the same time, it gives them personalized support by distilling insights from connected products and services, setting the stage for healthier futures.
Philips Avent knows that technology and data help give every baby a voice. That’s why, unlike other parenting applications, uGrow enables you to track a baby’s vital statistics from temperature to sleep through its connected products, which include the uGrow Smart Baby Monitor and Smart Ear Thermometer. It presents this data in a useful way for both parents and ultimately healthcare professionals who can then provide parents with more personalized advice and guidance.
For the ultimate in ease and simplicity, voice activation has now been introduced to the uGrow app via Amazon Echo. This revolutionary technology allows you to add trackers, ask questions and automatically add data to your child’s development timeline through voice control alone. The Alexa Voice Service behind Amazon Echo is continually evolving which will also enable ongoing advances in sophisticated voice control to be introduced in the future.
“The first 1,000 days of a baby’s life are the most influential and a key foundation for the health of our society,” said Aliette van der Wal, Business Leader Mother & Childcare, Philips. “We understand how overwhelming becoming a parent can be, and as Philips Avent we believe it’s important for parents to start their journey with the right guide. Our uGrow platform gives babies a voice through data capture and by providing parents with information, confidence and reassurance. We are continually looking at new ways to enhance the uGrow platform to help parents make better informed parenting decisions.”
Philips Avent understands that creating a relaxing environment for mothers during times like feeding and sleeping is important. In fact, science shows that the more relaxed a mother is, the more comfortable breastfeeding is. By connecting uGrow to the Philips Hue lighting system, parents will soon be allowed to create the perfect setting to help enable a baby’s sleep, feed or play time.
Inspired by the sun, Philips Hue white ambiance offers every shade of white light, creating a soothing environment. It can gradually tune to a cool daylight (6500k) and gently change to warm white (2200k). Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for a new baby and science shows that the more relaxed a mother is, the more comfortable breastfeeding is. In fact, research reveals that 90% of moms would like to breastfeed, but over 60% encounter problems in the first 10 days that make her want to stop – creating a positive environment from the start can help overcome this.
In addition to light and ambiance, the quality of the air we breathe is vital for our long term health, especially in children and with the Philips Air Purifier 1000i series you will soon be able to maintain constant clean air in the nursery. In integrating this smart, innovative Philips technology with uGrow the Philips Air Purifier 1000i series reduces common airborne allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander and fine dust, viruses and bacteria, which can contribute to longer term health problems such as allergies and asthma.
What’s more, its unique NightSense mode, which is automatically triggered by light sensor, is quieter so will not disturb your precious sleeping baby. This purifier has superior performance on reducing allergens, gases, odors and includes powerful NanoProtect S3 filters, which ensure a superior particle Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 250 m3 / hour, applicable up to a 60m² room2. These innovative filters are highly efficient in removing ultrafine particles as small as 0.02μm (2,500 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair3) leaving you safe in the knowledge that your family is breathing cleaner air.
“Connecting products such as Philips Hue and the Philips Air Purifier 1000i series to uGrow would make it easier for parents to remotely control important factors such as light and air with a simple touchpoint, helping to create a positive environment for better long term health,” said van der Wal. “In the future, we’ll see more data and health-based applications for uGrow, with medical validation and algorithms that will allow for the coming together of consumer and professional care, ultimately leading to better health and wellbeing for babies across the world.”
