Philips introduces the new LightFrame™ Monitor to reduce eye-strain and fatigue
August 28, 2008
Berlin, Germany – Philips builds on a long tradition of putting extraordinary technology and meaningful innovation to work by introducing the LightFrame™
Monitor. At the forefront of cutting edge technology, LightFrame™ is the first LCD monitor available worldwide that is proven to reduce eye fatigue. With a simple press of a
single button, LightFrame™ surrounds your LCD monitor.
Philips LightFrame™ works by emitting a cool blue light from the monitors frame. Scientifically proven, this blue glow gives users a greater sense of well being as they become
more relaxed and have less eye fatigue. LightFrame's blue light stimulates the visual senses and improves concentration even after long hours spent in front of a computer screen.
The specific efficacy of the LightFrame™ monitor was validated in an academic study at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands under the direction of Professor
Dr. A. Johnson. The study concluded: “…a significant proportion of people performing computer tasks prefer working with Philips LightFrame™ compared to working without
it. The common reason given for their preferences is that LightFrame™ helps them concentrate and makes them feel less tired and more rested...”
Scientists clearly acknowledge the relationship between blue light and neurological receptors that transmit signals for setting our biological clocks to the brain. Researchers
looking to lessen the results of jet lag found that light plays a major role in the body's sense of well-being. Among other learned groups, the American Psychiatric Association has
endorsed light therapy for mental maladies associated with the seasonal depression caused by darker winter days. Subsequent research indicates that blue light relieves fatigue,
promotes concentration and fosters alertness.
“Our research with consumers showed us that many people want an LCD monitor that helps keep them refreshed, alert and free from eye-strain, a complaint associated with long
hours spent in front of the computer screen. As a result Philips combined its industry-leading lighting technology with its display expertise to create the LightFrame™ LCD
monitor” explained Bob Kobes, Vice President, Philips IT Displays.
The 220XW9, Philips LightFrame™ is a 22-inch widescreen LCD monitor, designed in piano white to compliment a modern and stylish home décor. In addition, the 220XW9 is packed
with outstanding features such as Phillips’ SmartImage, a response time of 2ms and 12000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, all contributing to an outstanding LCD display performance.
Furthermore the monitor is equipped with an auto picture format button that enables the user to switch between widescreen and 4:3 ratios for maximum enjoyment regardless of displayed
media’s native format.
The Philips 22-inch widescreen LightFrame™ LCD monitor will be available in selected markets in November 2008.
